PANTONE Color of the Year: Ultra Violet

Hello friends! This is Ping here to tell you all about the 2018 Color of the Year, PANTONE 18-3838—also known as: Ultra Violet!

Different shades of purple offer varying symbolic inferences, from royal garments to meditation, but I think Ultra Violet is especially cool because of its versatility and deep meaning. Not quite sure what I’m getting at? Keep reading!

Why Ultra Violet?

I think we all agree purple is a cool color, but why was it chosen for Color of the Year?

The Pantone Color Institute chooses the Color of the Year based on global trends and the psychology of color. This forecasting “provides strategic direction for the world of trend and design.” Because Ultra Violet is so closely associated with ingenuity and imagination, this color really speaks to designers throughout the creative industry.

PANTONE describes the color as representative of the universe and the “intrigue of what lies ahead”. Throughout history, purple has evoked mindfulness and spirituality, and many companies use the color in meeting spaces to “inspire connection”. NPR suggested the color represents the bipartisan blending of red and blue, Republican and Democrat. “It’s truly a reflection of what’s needed in our world today,” suggested Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute.

This color is even popular in food purple fruits and vegetables (eggplants, figs, purple potatoes, cabbage) that are currently “trending” for their many health benefits!

Ultra Violet and The Icebox

Here at The Icebox, we relate well to the countercultural and unconventional nature of the hue popularized by Prince, David Bowie, and Jimi Hendrix as a “personal expression of individuality”. Adding this color to your branding and promotional products, even in a minor way, will add a sense of depth, interest, and introspection to your company swag.

Another cool quality of Ultra Violet is how it easily combines with other colors; pair it with metallic to appear luxurious or with greens for an earthy tone. Who knew purple could be so versatile? If you need more ideas, PANTONE provided eight color palettes for experimentation in design.

I also love this color for 2018, because it’s “symbolic of what is possible and continues to inspire the desire to pursue a world outside our own”. It even conveys originality and visionary thinking for the future. If a color can bring us together, this penguin is a major fan.

The experts at PANTONE say that forward-thinking companies are using shades of Ultra Violet throughout their marketing, and we think you should try it too! Questions? Contact our team of Creative Experts today.

3 New Year's Resolutions for the Modern Marketer

How to Prioritize Innovation and Creativity in the New Year

Happy New Year, friends! It’s Ping here. I am getting back into the swing of things at The Icebox after a nice holiday break. I hope you enjoyed time with family and friends.

A new year always brings feelings of promise and optimism – there’s something special about a chance for a fresh start. For the modern marketer, change is a constant. Yet, all the marketing professionals I talk to face the same challenge: it’s hard to prioritize innovation and creativity when it’s taking everything you’ve got just to keep your projects moving.

As the King of Cool here at The Icebox, I know a lot about innovation and creativity when it comes to promoting your brand. So I’ve put together 3 New Year’s resolutions for the modern marketer. Learn from our experience, and make this new year your most creative one yet!

Resolution #1: Open Your Mind to Creative Swag Ideas
You have your go-to swag orders – all marketers do. Your pens, koozies, mints, etc. To start your year off right, contact your Icebox Creative Solutions Expert and have a strategic conversation about your company’s goals for the year. Schedule a meeting to talk more about your target audience, what types of events you will be attending, and how you intend to promote your brand using swag. We’ll present you with creative ideas at every price point, and you’ll take all the credit for the new ways in which your brand will get noticed!

Resolution #2: Remember Your Best Brand Ambassadors Are Your Employees
If you’re not outfitting your team with branded apparel and swag, you’re missing an opportunity to leverage your company’s most valuable brand ambassadors. Whether it’s new jackets for the winter months, wovens and polos for upcoming tradeshows or client visits, headwear for hanging out at the park, cool drinkware, or useful office supplies, your employees will relish the opportunity to represent your brand in any setting. Keep morale strong with swag!

Resolution #3: Leverage the Creative Energy of the Icebox Art Department
Your brand guide is your armor. No one messes with your logo and gets away with it. And while that mindset promotes consistency and ensures quality in your communications, it’s sometimes fun to color outside the lines if the project allows for it. If you’re planning a cool event or participating in a charity initiative—or if you just want to mix it up for any reason—you can rely on the Icebox Art Department. Our team of designers can create beautiful, creative designs for your swag orders while remaining true to your brand standards. I’ve seen the enthusiasm for our brand amongst our employees increase since we started implementing the creative ideas brought to us by The Icebox. There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t see multiple employees wearing or using branded gear, and it really does make a big impact.” – Mandy Glidewell, Director of Marketing at ADAPTURE

The Art of Gift Giving: How to Select Meaningful Gifts for Your Clients

Hey there! Ping here. Unbelievably, the holidays are upon us, and it’s time to seriously start thinking about your client gifts.

Any time is the right time to show your clients how much you appreciate their business, but the holiday season is the time of year when it’s most appropriate. That being said, it’s important to keep in mind that your clients will be receiving gifts from several vendors. So how can you ensure your gift stands out from the rest? As you close out the final quarter of the year, we want to ensure your brand leaves a lasting impression this season.

When selecting gifts for your clients, there are three key things to consider.
  1. Practicality.  Before you order a gift, ask yourself: Is this something my client will need or something I want them to use for my benefit? If you stick with choosing a gift that your client needs or that will be used to improve his or her life, your gift will have more impact and lasting power. A great example is a rechargeable power bank or a Bluetooth speaker.
  1. Relevance. Take note of what is relevant in your client’s industry. Think back to conversations, emails, news articles, or even social media posts the client has discussed or shared about industry trends. This is a good way to give a gift that isn’t too personal and keeps the business relationship at the forefront. Your attention to detail will leave a lasting impression.
  1. Cost. According to Advertising Specialty Institute, the average cost per customer/prospect is $43 (and that’s up by $10 per person year over year). Know your budget for each client before you decide. It will make the process easier.
Here are some more cool ideas:
  1. Food basket, candy tower, or wine packaged in keepsake containers with your brand
  2. Apparel that can be used as activewear or outerwear
  3. Handcrafted leather items such as planners, notepads, and sketchbooks
  4. Travel bags and accessories
  5. Gift sets customized for sports lovers, wine lovers, and everything in between
There is no time like the present to show your clients you care. Do it with a meaningful gift customized by The Icebox. Contact our Creative Experts today to start the conversation.

Stay Warm and Look Cool with Outerwear

While everyone may own a jacket or hat that was purchased from a retail brand, the likelihood of a consumer owning outerwear from a business he or she patronizes is slim. In fact, only 50% of U.S. consumers own promotional outerwear. This is a major opportunity for your brand to stand out in a creative way.

The 2016 impressions study by the Advertising Specialties Institute shows that outerwear is kept longer than other promotional products because it is useful, attractive and enjoyable to have. More importantly, nearly half of outwear recipients are willing to do business with the advertiser and almost 90% think favorably about the advertiser after receiving outerwear.

Fall is officially here, but there is still time left to order branded outerwear before the weather gets cold.

Jackets
When you think of outerwear, jackets come to mind. No matter where you are located, options for size, style and material make jackets the perfect choice for different climates, customers, and budgets. (When in doubt, buy fleece.)

Jackets also happen to have the best brand impression of any outerwear product. Nearly 85% of people who own promotional jackets can recall the logos on them.

Hoodies
You can also consider a hoodie or sweatshirt. These items are comfortable and still have the perfect amount of space for your logo, message, or artwork.

Beanies
Beanies have been trending in sports merchandise and are increasingly popular in apparel. There are many ways to customize beanies to your brand and target audience. Whether you are selling them in a gift shop or giving them away at an event, you will remain top of mind!

Scarves
Add some color and fun to any outfit with a promotional scarf made of wool, fleece, cotton, or polyester. It can be paired as a set with a beanie and/or gloves. Whatever you decide, your employees and customers will be happy to carry it along wherever they go for winter and fall.

Gloves
Put your brand in good hands. Buy custom gloves for sports, safety, gardening, or a cold day. They can be made with acrylic, cotton, fleece, leather, and more.

Whatever your outwear needs, count on the creative experts at The Icebox to ensure your clients look cool while staying warm!

Tailgating Essentials for the Ultimate Pre-Game Party

As much as Americans love watching team sports like football, soccer, and baseball, we all know that the true action takes place off the field before the game begins. Tailgate parties have become a necessary experience whether you attend the game or not. It is what brings together fans, family, friends, and foes for food and fun.

According to the Advertising Specialty Institute, the average tailgater spends more than $500 per year on food alone and attends or hosts 6-10 tailgate parties per season. The parties last about 3-4 hours and include lots of food, drinks, and games. That’s a lot of money, time, and brand exposure!

To make sure your brand is the life of the tailgate party, offer these essential tailgating products to your employees and customers.

Game Set
Tailgate games are one of the main sources of entertainment during the party. A survey from Tailgate Institute shows that the favorite tailgate games are Beer Pong, Corn Hole, and Ring Toss. Add your logo or message to these game sets and you will be the center of attention.

Grilling Set
Perhaps more important than tailgate games is the food. Help out the cook with this 5-in-1 Folding BBQ Tool.

Cooler
Whether serving water, soft drinks or adult beverages, tailgaters will need something to keep their drinks cold. Give them some cool options from a Beverage Tub to a Table Top Cooler.

Drinkware
Having a cold drink is no good without something handy to put it in. Order custom cups, koozies, or tumblers that can be used for game days and beyond.

Folding Chair
Just because tailgating happens outside, doesn’t mean it can’t be comfortable. Hang out in this Cool Breeze Lounger.

What makes these products even better is that they can also be used for music concerts, outdoor festivals, block parties, and more. Check out our site for these items or contact The Icebox team to find out more ways to ensure your brand will not just be part of the crowd, but stand out too!
